AGVs and AMRs perfectly align with manufacturing companies’ pursuit of greater efficiency and performance. Specifically for this market, Delta – a global player in power supplies – is launching the MOOVair: an innovative 1 kW charger that enables contactless power transfer. “A whole new world for us. That’s why the MOOVair will take a prominent place at our Indumation booth,” says Jan Van Dijck, Sales Manager at distributor A&C Solutions.
A side activity within the electric vehicle market
The electrification of the bicycle and automotive industries has led many players to focus on charging technology for electric vehicles. In this field, A&C Solutions has been successfully active for 10 years with connectors for Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs). “We closely monitor this market and remain open to new developments that could complement it. Delta’s MOOVair is a perfect example,” Jan explains.
Delta MOOVair is a 1 kW charger that enables smart and wireless charging. “The manufacturing industry is looking for new ways to charge its industrial vehicles efficiently at scale – preferably as autonomously as possible. And contactless power transfer is the perfect answer to that need.”
A high-tech system with high efficiency
Contact charging isn’t as straightforward as it may seem. How do you initiate charging automatically? How do you check if the terminals are live? How do you manage communication between the vehicle and the charger? And how can you ensure proper contact? Jan: “Concerns about misalignment, contact wear, or the risk of electrical arcing are eliminated with the MOOVair solution. No cable, no connector, and therefore no worries – less maintenance, less downtime. On top of that, Delta’s expertise really makes a difference in terms of efficiency: up to 93%, which outperforms most wired solutions available today.”
Expanding the playing field
Simple, efficient, but also robust – and dust and waterproof (IP65). Delta clearly understands the environments in which AGVs and AMRs operate. “Even the software needed to supply the right voltage and current to the vehicles was co-developed. Everything is fully adjustable.” For now, the MOOVair is only available in a 1 kW version with a charging current of up to 20 A.
“That already gets you pretty far. But in the future, new models with higher power levels will be introduced to broaden the range of applications,” Jan assures.
