A manufacturer of smart sanitary solutions was looking for a reliable connector solution for a new generation of water-saving urinals. The challenge went beyond creating a simple electrical connection. The solution had to withstand humid conditions, simplify installation, and support a compact, maintenance-friendly design.
The Challenge
The smart urinals incorporate advanced sensor technology capable of distinguishing between urine and water. This allows the flushing process to be controlled more accurately, significantly reducing water consumption.
Since the electronics operate in a humid sanitary environment, a waterproof and highly reliable connector solution was essential to ensure long-term performance and system reliability.
In addition, two important design challenges had to be addressed:
- The distance between the urinal and the wall-mounted interface required additional cable length during installation.
- Once installed, the cable assembly needed to remain compact and neatly organized within the limited available space.
A further complication was that installation takes place in a dark and confined area where the connector is often connected by touch rather than by sight.
The Solution
To meet all requirements, a combination of the following components was selected:
- A waterproof HIGO connector
- A coiled (spiral) cable
- A JST connector for the internal connection
Waterproof HIGO Connector
The HIGO connector provides excellent protection against moisture and water ingress, making it ideally suited for sanitary applications.
An additional advantage is its distinctive trapezoidal shape. This mechanical design enables installers to make a correct connection by touch, without visual access to the connector.
As a result, installation becomes faster, easier, and virtually error-free, even in confined and poorly lit environments.
Coiled Cable for Maximum Flexibility
Additional cable length is required during installation to connect the urinal to the wall interface. However, a standard cable would occupy unnecessary space once the installation is complete.
The coiled cable provided the perfect solution by combining:
- Extended reach during installation
- Compact cable management after installation
- Reduced risk of cable damage
- A cleaner and more professional appearance
JST Connector for Internal Connectivity
For the internal wiring, a JST connector was selected. Its compact design and reliable electrical performance make it an ideal solution for installations where space is limited.
The Result
The combination of a waterproof HIGO connector, a flexible coiled cable, and a compact JST connector resulted in a robust and user-friendly connectivity solution.
