An Efficient
One-Stop-Shop Solution
for a Payment System
Manufacturer

6/23/26

When developing electronic systems, success is not only determined by performance, but also by efficiency, cost optimization, and ease of production. This became evident in a project for a manufacturer of payment systems for laundromats, who was looking for a more efficient power supply solution for its design.

The Challenge

The original design used three separate power supplies:

  • 5V – 15W
  • 12V – 35W
  • 24V – 150W

While this configuration met all technical requirements, it also came with several drawbacks. The three power supplies occupied valuable cabinet space, increased assembly time, and required additional wiring and connection points.

The customer’s question was straightforward: could the design be made simpler, more compact, and more cost-effective?

The Solution

After a technical evaluation, a new configuration based on Delta Electronics’ PMT2 Series power supplies was proposed.

For the 24V rail, the following power supply was selected:

  • PMT24V150W2BAV – 24V / 150W

For the 5V and 12V outputs, an innovative dual-output solution was introduced:

  • PMT-D1V75W2BA – Dual Output Power Supply
    • 5V / 5A
    • 12V / 4A

By combining the 5V and 12V outputs into a single unit, two separate power supplies could be replaced by one dual-output model. As a result, the total number of power supplies in the system was reduced from three to two.

Key Benefits for the Customer

Space Savings in the Control Cabinet

The dual-output power supply occupies significantly less space than two individual power supplies combined. This enabled a more compact cabinet design while freeing up valuable space for additional components or future system expansions.

Lower Total System Cost

The dual-output power supply proved to be more cost-effective than the combined price of the original 5V and 12V power supplies.

As a result, the customer benefited from both a simplified design and a reduction in overall hardware costs.

Reduced Assembly Effort

With only two power supplies instead of three, system assembly became considerably easier:

  • Fewer components to install
  • Less wiring
  • Fewer connection points
  • Shorter assembly times

This streamlined the manufacturing process and reduced the risk of wiring and installation errors.

A True One-Stop-Shop Solution

An additional advantage was that both power supplies could be supplied through a single source. This provided the customer with a complete, tailor-made power solution from one supplier.

The result is simplified procurement, reduced logistical complexity, and consistent technical support throughout the product lifecycle.

The Result

By switching to the PMT2 Series, the customer significantly optimized the power architecture of its payment system.

The benefits achieved include:

✔ A more compact design
✔ Lower hardware costs
✔ Reduced assembly time
✔ Easier installation
✔ Less wiring
✔ One reliable supplier for the complete power solution

This project demonstrates that selecting the right power supplies can deliver much more than the required voltage levels. By taking a system-level approach and carefully analyzing the application requirements, we were able to develop a solution that provided measurable advantages in cost, space utilization, manufacturing efficiency, and ease of integration.

The combination of the PMT24V150W2BAV and the PMT-D1V75W2BA resulted in a smart, cost-effective, and future-proof power solution tailored to the needs of the customer’s payment system application.
